A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on one of Ontario's major highways. Five others were also injured in the same car accident on the Queen Elizabeth Highway (QEW) in Mississauga. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported three children and two adults to hospital. None of the five sustained life-threatening injuries.

The boy was flown to Sick Kids hospital in Toronto with critical injuries. Traffic was backed up in the westbound lanes of the busy highway because Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed the roadway at the scene for investigation. An OPP spokesperson said a transport truck and at least four other vehicles were involved. A police report said the incident happened at about 10:45 a.m. on July 13. The highway remained closed until about 4 in the afternoon.

A multi-car accident could be caused by several things and also could be caused by more than one driver. Passengers are rarely to blame for vehicular accidents, so if a passenger dies as a result of a car accident, his or her family could be entitled, under Ontario law, to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the person or persons found to be responsible for the incident. Those injured may also file personal injury suits.

Persons suffering injuries in a car accident should discuss their situations with an Ontario lawyer experienced in personal injury law. This is an important step if the injuries were caused by the negligence of another driver or drivers. A lawyer will provide advice regarding seeking benefits for any injuries sustained as a result of a car accident.
