The Ontario Provincial Police recently reported a devastating crash that occurred on Highway 9, not far from Tottenham. Accident reports indicate that the car accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on June 17. Three cars were involved, and several people suffered critical injuries.
Officers say, for reasons yet to be determined, a pickup truck driver crossed the centre of the highway and entered the lanes of traffic heading in the opposite direction. He smashed head-on into another pickup truck. A third vehicle then struck debris left by the initial crash, but the occupants of this car were uninjured.
However, the driver who crossed over, and a passenger in that vehicle, suffered critical injuries, and they were life-flighted to a hospital where the life of one of them was reported to be threatened by the severity of the injuries. Two more passengers in that vehicle, along with two occupants of the other pickup truck, were rushed to an area hospital by road. All four were reported to be seriously injured.
Investigations involving crossover crashes are typically challenging, and determining the cause may take some time. However, in the meantime, any victims of a car accident that resulted from another person’s negligence are entitled to pursue financial relief — even if they were passengers in the vehicle driven by an alleged negligent driver. Establishing negligence may be a challenge, but the help of an experienced personal injury lawyer is available. With the support and guidance of such a professional and documented proof of damages sustained, an Ontario civil court may award a monetary judgement to cover medical expenses and emotional losses that were brought about by the crash.
