Multi-car accident kills Kitchener man

A serious crash on Highway 401 has resulted in one fatality, according to police sources. Ontario Provincial Police responded to the fatal car accident that claimed the life of a Kitchener man in the early hours of Nov. 4. The investigation into the cause of the multi-car accident is still underway as of this report.

According to the current version of the report, the initial accident took place around 6:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the 401. For reasons that have not yet been made clear, this also caused a secondary accident in the eastbound lanes as well, causing the shutdown of the entire highway for several hours. One of the passengers in one of the involved vehicles, a 55-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Three other people were reported injured and were taken to local hospitals by arriving medical personnel. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening, but their identities have not been released by police at this time. The cause of the crash has not been identified by police, who are asking witnesses to the accident to please come forward in aid of the investigation.

A multi-car accident can have several possible causes and could even be considered the fault of multiple drivers. However, passengers are generally not considered to be active factors in accidents, which means the family of the deceased is likely entitled under Ontario law to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the person or persons determined to be at fault. Injured parties are also entitled to file personal injury suits in the same manner.
