Young driver charged in fatal car crash

A 14-year-old boy has been blamed for the death of a 12-year-old girl following a fatal car crash that happened last Tuesday in Caledon. The unfortunate incident happened early Tuesday morning a little after 4 a.m., while the girl was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that the boy was illegally driving.

Authorities pronounced the girl dead at the crash site. The 14-year-old boy, on the other hand, was lucky to survive with injuries. Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital following the accident and he was later charged with the following crimes: possession of stolen property with a value over $5,000, criminal negligence resulting in death and dangerous driving resulting in death.

According to police, the accident happened on Highway 10, approximately 60 kilometres from downtown Toronto in Caledon. The automobile, a Toyota SUV, was going northbound when it suddenly went out of control, hit a hydro pole and drove through a fence. Next, it hit a brick pillar. At this time, police are attempting to notify the young girl's family of her death.

The young man charged in this incident faces the threat of criminal punishment for his alleged crimes. He also faces the threat of a civil lawsuit if the deceased 12-year-old girl's family chooses to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against him.

It is not uncommon for Ontario family members of a fatal car accident victim to pursue wrongful death claims. Such claims are a way for family members to seek financial compensation for the loss of a loved one. This financial compensation might represent the cost of end of life services, damages relating to lost relationship, emotional turmoil and other categories of damages. Although no amount of money could ever right the wrong of losing a loved one at the hands of someone else's unlawful actions, this kind of lawsuit can help family members achieve a sense of justice and closure relating to their loss.
