What signs of brain injury should I look for after an accident?

On Behalf of | Apr 27, 2016 | Brain Injury |

Brain injury resulting from an automobile accident or even a slip and fall is sometimes difficult for people to understand. In some cases, it may even be possible that a victim does not realize he or she has been injured because the symptoms can be elusive. Many times victims look normal and seem to speak normally, making the extent of injury difficult to determine.

It is wise to look into the signs and symptoms of brain injury if you or someone you love have suffered a car or truck accident in Ontario. In fact, it is always a good idea to get a medical opinion after suffering any kind of accident. This way, your physician can rule out any injuries you may not be aware of. In the meantime, here are a few common brain injury symptoms that may help accident victims spot a possible injury.

Physical symptoms are often the easiest to identify and may include the following:

— Impaired movement

— Problems with coordination and balance

— Speech, vision and sleep difficulties

— Seizure disorders

— And even coma

Cognition as well as behavioural or emotional symptoms are the truly elusive ones. Signs often include these and many others:

— Difficulties with memory, concentration and attention

— Communication problems

— Changes in personality

— Anxiety, irritation and depression

— Trouble managing anger and controlling emotions

The symptoms listed above are just a fraction of the effects a brain injury can cause. See a doctor right away if you have experienced these or any other unusual difficulties. You should also know that if your injury occurred due to another person’s negligence, you might have grounds for a lawsuit. Consider consulting with an Ontario-based lawyer as early as possible.
